MCPHERSON, Kan. – After falling in a pair of matches on Sunday, Valor Baseball looked to avoid being swept on Monday in a single nine-inning match against the McPherson Bulldogs.
The Valor offense exploded for 19 runs, dominating from the start in a strong mercy rule victory over the Bulldogs, 19-2.

Evangel hit .459 on Monday, compared to McPherson's .269.

Eli Cook finished his afternoon hitting .600 (3-5) and recording 7 RBIs. Cook hit two three run home runs in the win.

Levi Loughridge went 2-3 at the plate, driving in four runs in the win.

Colby Vavruska earned his second win from the mound on Monday, moving to 2-0 on the season, allowing just a pair of earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED

McPherson struggled with control early from their pitching staff. After Isaac Miller and Riley Mitchell worked a pair of walks, Taylor McLeod was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Levi Loughridge hit a single to score Miller and Mitchell and Jeremy Vickers walked to reload the bases. After McLeod scored on a passed ball, Carson Sturdefant hit a single to clear the bases, making it a 5-0 game in favor of the Valor.

Evangel continued their strong offense in the second inning. Isaac Miller, Riley Mitchell, Taylor McLeod, and Levi Loughridge all consecutively singled, scoring Miller and Mitchell. Eli Cook blasted a home run to score McLeod and Loughridge, making it 10-0. After a Matthew Olson single, Arly Miller was hit by a pitch. Isaac Miller followed the at bat with a three run blast of his own, making it 13-0, Evangel.

Taylor McLeod doubled to open the third inning and an Eli Cook single scored McLeod, giving EU a 14-0 lead.

McPherson would plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it a 14-2 Valor lead.

In the top of the sixth, Carson Sturdefant opened the inning by being hit by a pitch. After stealing second, Sturdefant came around to score on a Matthew Olson single, extending the lead to 15-2.

Evangel again scored additional runs, this time in the top of the seventh. Riley Mitchell opened the inning with a double, followed by a single from Taylor McLeod and a walk from Levi Loughridge to load the bases. A Jeremy Vickers pop up was deep enough to score Mitchell and Eli Cook once again blasted a shot to score McLeod and Loughridge, putting EU ahead, 19-2.

After a strong starting performance from Colby Vavruska, Caden O'Bryan shut the door on the Bulldogs, solidifying Evangel's 19-2 win on Monday.
