Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Valor Men's Basketball took on the Ottawa Braves on Wednesday (Dec. 11) evening, looking to bounce back and stop a two-game losing skid. A cold night of offense hurt Evangel, as a 24-point first half for EU was not nearly enough on Wednesday, as the Valor fell, 60-82, in their third consecutive loss of the season.

After Ottawa opened Wednesday night's game with a basket, Logan Rodgers scored to tie the game up at 2-2, the lone tie of the night for the Valor. An Ottawa 9-1 run pushed the Braves out to a 11-3 lead with 15:19 remaining in the first half. Harrison Doennig nailed a three pointer to make it a 17-11 game, but again, the Braves responded with a 14-6 run to take a 31-17 lead over the Valor. The Valor could not slow Ottawa's offense, as they trailed by 25 going into the halftime break, 24-49.

The Valor outscored Ottawa in the second half, 36-33, but their fight was not enough as the first half deficit proved to be too much. Evangel came out of the break on a 5-0 run and looked to gain momentum in the half, but a dunk from Ottawa stalled the Valor run. Evangel continued to fight, but again, a late run from Ottawa pushed the Braves back out to a 29-point lead. An 8-0 run close to the end of the game for Evangel with baskets from Garrett Davault and Cade Sutton made it 77-56, in favor of Ottawa. A basket from Davault ended the game, as EU fell, 82-60, on Wednesday.

QUOTABLE

"I was extremely disappointed with our effort tonight. That wasn't us." head coach Bert Capel stated. "We'll work hard to get it fixed and be ready to go on Saturday."

NOTABLE

  • Garrett Davault led the Valor with 13 points.

  • Evangel was outrebounded, 38-27, in Wednesday's loss.

  • Ottawa shot 55 percent in Evangel's loss, as the Valor hit just 33.3 percent.

  • The 60 point output is the lowest amount of points scored since December 15th, 2021, when Evangel lost to Baker, 60-64.
