YORK, Neb. -- Valor Men's Basketball traveled to York, Nebraska, on Saturday (Dec. 14) afternoon, looking to bounce back against the Panthers, after falling in three straight contests. A strong first half and a nearly 48 percent shooting night from the floor helped push Evangel to an 83-74 win over York on the road.
In the first four minutes of play, the Valor came out quickly offensively, jumping out to a 16-6 lead over the Panthers behind a pair of three pointers from Carson Cavalier, as well as a pair of layups from Garrett Davault. York was able to roar back, rattling off several baskets to draw within a point of EU, before the Valor again generated a 9-0 run, sparked by a three pointer from Cole Griesemer. Both teams traded baskets the remainder of the half, as the Valor led over York, 46-38, at the halftime break.
Both teams continued to play a tightly contested game into the second half, as York drew within three points of the Valor, 64-61, with 9:14 remaining in the game. The Valor defense settled in midway through the second half and got stops, using a 10-2 run to take a 74-63 lead over York. Strong free throw shooting the rest of the way helped push the Valor to a road win against the Panthers, 83-74.
