SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Volleyball hosted the sixth seeded Saint Mary Spires on Tuesday (Nov. 12) evening, looking to earn a win and advance to the KCAC Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Valor dominated in set one, helping fuel Evangel to a 3-0 sweep of the Spires, moving Evangel a step closer to a conference tournament title.
Evangel swung .457 in set one, one of their most dominant sets of the season, hitting 20 kills and recording just four errors. A 9-3 run to open the set with three kills coming from Loran Pritchett helped fuel Evangel's offense and although Saint Mary fought back to make it a three point set, 9-6, the Valor offense could not be stopped. Vivianna Sanchez recorded six kills in the set to push EU to victory, taking a 25-18 win in set one.
Set two proved to be a battle between both teams, as neither team could break away from each other. With Saint Mary leading, 19-17, a pair of mistakes from the Spires made it a 19-19 game. With the game ultimately tied up at 23 apiece, Sharayah Seymour recorded a kill, followed by a set clinching block from Vivianna Sanchez and Loran Pritchett, taking a 25-23 win in the second set.
After clinching a hard fought second set, the wind was taken out of the Spires sails. Evangel pushed out to a 6-1 lead, but Saint Mary used a 5-0 run to make it a 6-6 ballgame. Leading 11-10, a 6-2 Evangel run with multiple errors coming from Saint Mary made it a 17-12 game, helping Evangel take all the momentum, en route to their 25-15 win in set three.
