SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer took on the Saint Mary Spires in their final home game of their home stand, looking to bounce back against a strong Saint Mary team.

Evangel and Saint Mary battled in the first half, with both teams earning corners in the first 12 minutes, as neither team generated any offense on the corners. Saint Mary was awarded a foul in the box, giving the Spires a penalty shot. Ryan Garner stopped the shot, but the Valor were unable to regain possession on the save and Saint Mary buried a shot to take a 1-0 lead. Just moments later, a miscommunication on defense resulted in another Saint Mary goal, putting the Valor in an early 2-0 hole. The Valor offense was able to generate chances to end the first half, but none scored, keeping it a 2-0 halftime score.

The Valor offense fought tooth and nail to try and draw back even with Saint Mary in the second half. From the 65 minute mark to the 70:43 mark, the Evangel offense recorded several chances and corners, nearing scoring on every single opportunity. Finally, at the 70:43 mark, Ethan Gilliam used a header pass from Rem Harmsworth to score, making it a 2-1 game and drawing Evangel within a single score. Evangel did not stop fighting as Ted Okoroh nearly tied the game up at 2-2 with a shot, but a Spire defender blocked his shot and time ran out on an Evangel comeback, 2-1.
