NIXA, Mo. – The 19th-ranked Evangel football team rolled to a 44-3 Homecoming victory over the Avila Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
The Valor improved to 5-0 on the season and extended its regular season win streak and KCAC win streak to 16 consecutive games. Avila falls to 1-5 on the season as both teams enter their bye week before KCAC Divisional play starts in two weeks.
Reid Potts threw for three touchdowns as Evangel tallied 391 yards of total offense.
Defensively, EU held the Eagles to 170 yards of total offense and -5 yards rushing, while recording two interceptions.
Drew Ripko caught the first touchdown pass from Potts with 10:37 left in the first quarter. Ripko setup the touchdown pass and catch after a 22-yard punt return down to the Avila 16-yard line.
Kyair Warner picked off an Avila pass to setup the next Valor score. Just three plays into the drive,
Rafe Darter caught a 12-yard pass from Potts to take a 14-0 lead.
Evangel would take a 21-0 lead in the second quarter as
Broc Lyle caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Potts with 8:29 left in the half.
The ground attack for Evangel took off as well as
Eric Williams recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game. Williams carried 18 times for 130 yards to lead the Valor who tallied 257 yards total on the ground.
Avila scored its only points late in the second quarter on a Juan Delgado field goal from 49-yards out.
Jonah Edwards tacked on a 39-yard field at the 12:31 mark of the third quarter to push the Evangel lead to 24-3.
Potts added a rushing touchdown on a quarterback keeper from 1-yard out with 5:45 left in the third.
Evangel added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter with
Cameron Harris scoring from 14-yards out. Harris tallied 58 yards on 7 carries for the Valor.
Matt Allen connected with
Jayden Hart for the only score in the fourth quarter to cap a 12 play 69-yard drive.
Evangel sacked Avila three times led by
Bradley Myers nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss.
Riley Childs and
Zach Myers finished with six tackles each in the win for the Evangel defense.
UP NEXT
Evangel enters its bye week before returning home to open KCAC Division play against Bethany, on Oct. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
