NIXA, Mo. – The Evangel University football team dominated Bethany College Saturday afternoon, 68-17, in the KCAC Division Opener for both teams.

The Valor remain undefeated at 6-0, 1-0, while the Swedes fell to 3-4, 0-1 on the season. Evangel also continues its streak of 18 straight regular season and conference wins is the longest regular season win streak in Evangel history, eclipsing the previous mark of 14 wins from the 1996 to 1997 season. The current streak dates back to the final game of the 2022 regular season.

Evangel dominated in nearly every phase Saturday totaling 644 yards of total offense while holding Bethany to 173 yards of total offense. The Valor rushed for 410 yards led by Eric Williams' 113 yards and two touchdowns. The 410 rushing yards in Saturday's game broke the team record for rushing yards in a game (previously 396 against Culver-Stockton in 1993), as well as the most rushing touchdowns in a game with seven (previously six against three different teams).

The 68 points was the third most points scored by an Evangel football team trailing only a 78 point effort in 1997 and 70 point total in 1999.

Defensively, EU held Bethany to 17 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers. A safety by the Evangel defense pressured the Swedes on fourth down as an errant snap went through the back of the Valor endzone giving Evangel a 26-3 halftime lead.

The ground attack for Evangel found the endzone seven times, led by Williams and Chris Hubbard's two touchdowns each. Hubbard rushed for 73 yards, while Jayden Hart added 95 yards on the ground and one touchdown.

Quarterback Reid Potts threw for two touchdowns and 223 yards through the air. Before finishing his day, Potts also rushed for a score late in the third quarter to give Evangel a 40-3 lead.

Bradley Myers led Evangel with nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss on the defensive side of the ball. Nate Swofford and Chad Phillips each picked off the Bethany quarterback to aid in the three turnovers.
