STERLING, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer traveled to Sterling on Saturday, looking to continue to rise in the conference standings with a win against the Warriors squad. A pair of goals and strong defense did the trick for the Valor, as EU took a 2-0 win in full time.

The Valor offense dominated throughout Saturday's game, putting up 18 shots in the first half. McKenzie Calhoun and Makayla Myers both had strong shot attempts in the first period, but it ended up being Ava Campbell who scored the goal for Evangel close to the end of the half, on a penalty shot to give the Valor a 1-0 halftime lead.

Evangel's defense continued to shine in the second half, limiting Sterling's shot opportunities while continuing to feed the Valor offense chances at goal. McKenzie Calhoun broke through the Warrior defense at the 62:09 mark of the second half, putting EU ahead, 2-0. The Valor offense kept pressure on Sterling's defense, racking off multiple shot opportunities, but none found the back of the net, as Evangel cruised to a 2-0 victory and another shutout in the 2024 season.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel outshot Sterling, 32-7, overall.

  • Ava Campbell scored her first goal of the season while McKenzie Calhoun extended her team lead, scoring her fifth.

  • Rylee Clapp and the Valor defense finished their evening with another clean sheet.

  • Evangel recorded their seventh shutout of the season, the most since 2019.

QUOTABLE

"Our goals going into today were to get three points, create a strong attack and garner another clean sheet. I'm proud that we were able to accomplish all three. One of the coolest things is, with today's shutout, we now have seven on the season and that ties the record for shutouts in a season with the 2019 team," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "With the three points from today, we should maintain our place on the conference standings with two matches remaining. I'm proud of how well these ladies continue to play!! Valor Up!!"
