WICHITA, Kan. – Defining plays by senior
Nate Swofford helped the 20
th-ranked Evangel Valor football team to a 24-21 comeback victory over No. 19 Friends University on Saturday afternoon in KCAC football action.
Swofford recorded a fumble recovery for a scoop and score and then an interception in the final two minutes to help setup a game-winning field goal for Evangel.
The Valor rallied back twice after
Reid Potts, helped drive Evangel 88 yards culminating with a 35-yard touchdown pass to
Brady Allen. Allen finished with 104 yards on six catches as his fourth quarter touchdown tied the game at 21-21.
Potts finished 18 of 32 for 283 yards to lead the Valor offense. However, the defense helped propel Evangel in the comeback led by Swofford.
After the touchdown from Potts to Allen, Swofford's interception helped setup a 28-yard
Jonah Edwards field with one second left to push Evangel to a 24-21 victory.
Friends took a 14-0 lead into halftime before the Valor answered with 14 points in the third quarter.
Eric Williams punched in the first touchdown with 4:59 left in the quarter before Swofford's scoop and score and the end of the quarter. Williams finished with 57 yards on 21 carries.
Edwards' field goal moved the senior to 6 for 6 on the season helping Evangel win its 19
th consecutive regular season game. The win also continues the conference win streak for Evangel extending the regular season record.
Bradley Myers led Evangel with 17 tackles while
Joey Sylvester added 10 tackles and a tackle for a loss.

Evangel returns home to Eagle Stadium next Saturday to host McPherson College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
