SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer returned home to honor their seniors, taking on the McPherson College Bulldogs, looking to claim their fifth win of the conference season. A pair of second half goals and strong defense proved to be enough, as Evangel took a 2-0 win on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
Evangel and McPherson played a tightly contested first half with neither team scoring. Despite the first half being scoreless, Evangel's offense dominated the first half, recording seven shots, five of which were on goal, compared to just one for McPherson. Makayla Myers and Liyah Collins both nearly put the Valor ahead 1-0 in the half, with their shots being stopped by the McPherson keeper, as both teams were tied heading into the halftime break.
The Valor came out quick to open the second half, with Makayla Myers scoring a goal on passes from Charlae Cowan and Ava Campbell, putting Evangel ahead, 1-0. The Valor dominated the second half, not allowing a single McPherson shot in the period. Late in the game, a foul in the box gave EU a penalty shot that Dajah Boykin buried, cementing the Valor win, 2-0, over McPherson.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"What a great way to celebrate our seniors on their day!! Admittedly, I felt we came out strong but played rather slow in the first half. We chatted about our level of play at halftime and the ladies absolutely stepped it up," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "The goal early in the second half from Makayla was brilliant! Our possession and ball movement through the second half was exceptional. Another clean sheet for our backline and keeper is awesome! A great result on a beautiful day."
