Location: North Newton, Kan. (Thresher Field)

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer hit the road on Saturday (Oct. 12) morning, taking on the Bethel Threshers in North Newton. Although the Valor did go down 1-0 early, they did not falter, fighting to the finish and scoring a pair of goals to take a 2-1 win over the Threshers on the road.

Both teams played a competitive first half that saw each team score. At the 31:43 mark, Bethel scored first, putting the Valor in a one goal deficit. Less than two minutes later, Evangel responded with a goal of their own, coming from Sophia Weeks, who scored on a pass from Dajah Boykin to even the score. Liyah Collins nearly added a goal to the Valor total to end the half, but her shot hit the crossbar, as both teams went into the halftime break with a 1-1 tie.

In the second half, Evangel broke through once again, scoring early in the period on a shot from Dajah Boykin to take a 2-1 lead. The Valor defense came up big in the second half, denying multiple chances from the Bethel offense. Evangel also generated chances in the half, but none finished in goal. Despite not scoring again, the Valor defense showed up and dominated the second half, en route to Evangel's 2-1 victory, their fourth straight.

QUOTABLE

"What a great week for our ladies! How incredible it was to battle back from a one goal deficit to win the match. Their resilience and commitment to stay focused and play our game made the difference today. Sophia's and Dajah's goals were both brilliant and so exciting to see them execute things we continue to trail and talk about," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Once again our defending was great, even against a completely different formation and style of play than we have previously seen. Great win, Valor Up!!"
