SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Volleyball returned home on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon, looking to bounce back from a loss earlier in the week. Evangel was able to do just that, dominating the Tabor Bluejays in straight sets, 3-0.
Evangel hit a game high .184 attacking percentage in set one, recording 16 kills to Tabor's seven. A kill by Mackenzie Stoner opened the game for Evangel, as the Valor went on a 9-4 run capped off by a Sharayah Seymour kill. Tabor recorded a trio of kills and benefited from mistakes by the Valor offense to draw to within a single point, 13-12. Evangel responded with a strong run to close out the set, using kills from Abi Menzies and Vivianna Sanchez to take set one, 25-19.
Set two was dominated by both the Valor offense and defense. Tabor recorded a hitting percentage of -.054, hurting the Bluejays chances at a win in the set. A 16-6 run by the Valor to open set two proved to be the difference, as EU recorded 19 points in the set by the time Tabor hit double digits on the scoreboard. A pair of service aces by Bella Wakley capped off the 25-11 victory in set two over Tabor.
Set three proved to be the closest set of the match. Both teams traded points, but Tabor retained the lead for the majority of the set. Trailing 22-18, it appeared that Tabor would force a fourth set against the Valor, but the Valor offense came alive. With their backs against the wall, kills by Mallory Dick, Bella Wakley, and Vivianna Sanchez drew Evangel to trail by just a point, 23-22. Abi Menzies ended the set with dominant play to push EU to the victory, recording a pair of kills and a block with Vivianna Sanchez to solidify Evangel's 25-23 come from behind victory in set three, sweeping the Bluejays, 3-0.
