SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer hosted the Friends Falcons on Wednesday (Sept. 20) evening, looking to take their second consecutive victory in KCAC play. After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play, Friends was able to grab their first goal of the game and score a pair in the second half to take a 3-0 victory over the Valor.
Evangel was only able to record a pair of shots in the first half, as the Friends offensive pace kept EU from any strong attacks. Alece Hershey generated an opportunity in the first few minutes of the match, but a Falcons defender blocked the ball. At the 29:21 mark of the first half, Friends recorded their first goal of the game on an own goal, after an attempt to clear the ball out after a shot attempt hit the back left corner of the goal. Anna Crain nearly had the equalizer for Evangel at the 34:13 mark, but the keeper came away with a save as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the span of four minutes in the second half, the Falcons scored a pair of goals on identical plays, as Friends took a 3-0 lead over the Valor. Evangel's offensive pace stepped up after the third goal with shots on goal by Ava Campbell and Emily Oedewaldt, but the Valor could not put a goal on the board. Crain was awarded a penalty shot at the 61st minute, but a nice save by the Falcons keeper kept EU off the board. The Valor could not record a goal in the final 29 minutes of the match, falling 3-0 on Wednesday.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"Tough evening for us as we didn't quite match Friends' physicality and their pace around the field. This is just another level that we need to step up to and note how our opponent is playing," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We'll continue to work and clean up some of the technical things that created challenges for us tonight and be in a better position as we continue to go forward through the season."
