COLUMBIA, Mo. – Valor Volleyball hit the road on Tuesday (Sept. 12) evening, taking on the 11th ranked Columbia College Cougars, looking to pull off an upset against a talented squad. After a tight set one that the Valor just narrowly lost, Evangel was unable to string together enough offense to take a set, falling 3-0 against the nationally ranked team.
After falling behind early in set one, 12-7, Evangel fought to get back into the set. A trio of blocks and kill from Vivianna Sanchez helped the Valor even the score at 14-14. Evangel played point for point with the Cougars, but a 4-0 run proved to be the difference Columbia needed as they took a 22-17 lead. The Valor continued to fight, with a pair of kills from Mackenzie Stoner, but the damage had been done as EU fell, 25-22.
Evangel had no answer for Columbia's high powered offense in set two. Several large Cougar runs highlighted the set as the Valor could not generate a large run against the nationally ranked squad in the set, falling 25-10.
In set three, Evangel's Simone Johnson and Lizibeth Marler used strong attacks to stay even with Columbia, 6-6. After Marler's kill, Columbia went on a 7-1 run to take a 13-7 lead in the set. This run was the difference maker in the set as every time Evangel scored a point, the Cougars responded with a pair of their own as EU fell, 25-17 in set three.
