SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Valor Volleyball team opens its 2023 season Friday and Saturday (Aug. 25/26) with four non-conference matches in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Wolf Pack Welcome, hosted by Loyola University.
Evangel's season-opening matchup against Bluefield University begins at 12 p.m., and will be followed by a 2 p.m., contest against host school, Loyola. The following day sees Evangel match up against Ave Maria at 11 a.m., and finish the weekend with a 3 p.m. contest with the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

OPENING STORYLINES

Evangel will be opening its 57th season overall, with it being head coach Mary Whitehead's 24th season at the helm.

EU finished 17-16 last year, losing their quarterfinal matchup with William Penn to end their season.

Sophomores Bella Wakley and Sharayah Seymour return as the leading returning attackers on last season's team. Lowry finished last year with 173 kills and Reyes finished with 167 kills.

Sophomore Vivianna Sanchez returns after earning Heart Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year last season after a stellar year where she recorded 115 total blocks.

EU will face off with Bluefield, Ave Maria, and Michigan-Dearborn for the first time in program history this weekend. The Valor are 1-0 all time against Loyola, defeating the Wolf Pack in August of 2007, 3-0.
LOOKING AHEAD
Evangel will head to North Sioux City, S.D., next weekend (Sept. 1/2) to take part in the CSM Labor Day Classic, beginning with matches against Mayville State (2 p.m.) and Governors State (6 p.m.).
