SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Volleyball played host to the Avila Eagles on Tuesday (Nov. 7) evening in the KCAC Conference Tournament First Round, looking to take a win and keep their season alive. A dominant showing in the first set, set the pace for the Valor as Evangel swept Avila to advance to the Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday (Nov. 10) afternoon.
Evangel hit .321 in the first set to Avila's -.056, recording 11 kills on just two attacking errors. Simone Johnson came out very strong for the Valor, smoking a ball into the middle of the floor for Evangel's first kill of the evening. Trailing 4-3, Evangel went on an 11-2 run, capped off by a Simone Johnson and Sharayah Seymour block, to take a 14-6 lead over the Eagles. The remainder of the set was all EU, as a 5-0 run ended by a Johnson and Seymour block gave the Valor a 25-11 win in the set.
Evangel pushed out to another early lead in set two, using a 7-0 run to take a 15-7 lead over the Eagles. Avila would fight back though, coming within two points of the Valor, 18-16, but six kills from Mallory Dick pushed Evangel to a 25-21 victory over the Eagles in the second set.
In the third set, Evangel and Avila went point for point for the majority of the set. With EU leading, 19-18, the Valor went on a 6-1 run with a pair of kills coming from Sharayah Seymour and Bella Wakley to end the game, 25-19, in favor of the Valor.

UP NEXT
Evangel will take on the three-seeded Bethel College Threshers on Friday (Nov. 10) afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in Hutchinson, Kansas. With a win, Evangel will advance to the Conference Tournament Semifinals and take on the winner of #2 Kansas Wesleyan and #7 Saint Mary at 7:30 p.m. the same evening. With a loss, the Valor will end their 2023 season.
