Box Score

YORK, Neb. -- Valor Women's Basketball concluded their short road trip on Wednesday (Nov. 29) evening, heading north to take on the York Panthers in the first ever matchup between the two squads. A dominant opening half proved to be the difference in the match between both squads, as Evangel allowed York to score just 21 points in the first half, en route to their 69-57 victory over the home team.

Evangel dominated the first quarter, scoring 18 points and holding the Panthers to just five points in the first 10 minute period. Both Kate Gilbert and Jazzy Kirby scored four points in the quarter as Kamie Jenkins would score the final basket in the quarter on a nice feed from Micah Clayton as EU lead, 18-5, heading into the second quarter.

The Valor continued their dominant play, scoring 22 points in the second quarter alone and keeping a large margin between both teams on the scoreboard. Evangel shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the quarter, helping them race out to a 41-21 lead over the Panthers at the halftime break.

Both teams slowed a bit on offense in the third quarter, as Evangel scored just 11 points, their lowest in a single quarter of Wednesday's game. Despite only scoring 11 points, the Valor still outscored York by a point, taking a 52-31 lead over the Panthers heading into the final frame.

Evangel was outscored in the final quarter, but the damage had been done as York was unable to attempt any sort of comeback against the Valor. Baskets in the quarter by Lydia Babirye and Lexi Berry, who led the team in scoring, helped Evangel put away a 69-57 victory over the Panthers on the road.

QUOTABLE

"It's always good to win on the road. We had a good first quarter of defense that helped set the tone. Our offense and defense was clicking for the first 3-4 minutes of the second quarter. Then we got into a turnover fest which hasn't been an issue this year until tonight," stated Head Coach Jim Middleton. "Luckily we had a big lead and that may have contributed to the turnovers. However, we must get better consistently. I'm looking forward to coming home on Saturday for a home game and to get a streak going. It is Alumni day so it will be good to see some former Evangel players at the Ashcroft Center."

NOTABLE

  • Lydia Babirye led the Valor with 11 points in the win on Wednesday.

  • Ten Valor athletes scored on Wednesday.

  • Kamie Jenkins led Evangel in rebounds, finishing with ten.

  • Evangel shot 44 percent from the floor.

  • The Valor won the rebounding margin by 13 in the win on Wednesday.
