SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel women's basketball team dropped its Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opener Wednesday evening, 65-49, to Tabor College inside the Ashcroft Center.

Evangel fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action while Tabor moved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the KCAC.

The Valor struggled offensively shooting just 37 percent from the field, while the Blue Jays shot 48 percent after opening its lead in the second quarter. Tabor used a 7-0 run midway through the first quarter to take a 10-8 lead and never looked back.

Solid defense helped Evangel keep it close pulling within 10 at the 6:03 mark of the fourth quarter on a Jade Hinzman layup. However, Tabor answered to pull away under three minutes left in the game after a pair of Lexi Berry free throws made it an 11-point deficit for the Valor.

Jazzy Kirby led Evangel with nine points, four rebounds and three assists, while Emma Mullings and Kamie Jenkins each added seven points.
