MCPHERSON, Kan. – Valor Men's Soccer traveled to McPherson, Kansas, on Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon, looking to bounce back from a loss against the OKWU Eagles last Wednesday. After falling behind early, Evangel was able to record a goal in the second half to escape McPherson with a draw, 1-1.
The Valor were able to record three shots in the first twenty minutes of the match, but could not find a goal in their shot opportunities. McPherson was able to score on their first shot attempt, taking a 1-0 lead over Evangel at the 30:03 mark of the match. Franco Cuevas was able to put another shot attempt up for the Valor towards the end of the first half, but his shot ended up going high, as EU trailed heading into the halftime break, 1-0.
Evangel's offense came out strong to open the second half. EU recorded a pair of shot attempts to put pressure on the Bulldog goalkeeper. After McPherson went to clear the ball at the 61:27 mark, the keeper's attempt to clear the ball went off of Sage Ballard, who displayed great hustle, and hit the back of the goal, giving Evangel the tie, 1-1. QUOTABLE
"I'm obviously disappointed that we couldn't come away with a win this afternoon, but am glad that we were able to take a point in the draw," Men's Soccer Head Coach Kyle Beard stated. "Sage demonstrated exceptional hustle on our lone goal of the afternoon and was the difference between us coming home with a tie, instead of a loss."
