Location: McPherson, Kan. (Paul Family Field)

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer traveled to McPherson on Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon, looking to bring home a crucial win to keep their postseason hopes alive. After a even first half between both teams, Evangel used strong offense in the final half, scoring a pair of goals to come away with a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Evangel and McPherson played a fairly even first half, as both teams recorded similar shot attempts (4-3, in favor of EU). The Valor found a pair of chances in the opening minutes as McKenzie Calhoun and Ava Campbell both recorded shots in goal that were saved by the Bulldogs keeper. Campbell was able to record a pair of shots later in the half that went wide left, but that was it for the Valor offense in the half, as both teams were deadlocked, 0-0, at halftime.

The Valor offense ramped up in the second half. Evangel doubled McPherson's shot total in the second half, 10-4, as the Valor were able to net a pair of goals in the period. At the 60:42 mark, Anna Crain scored on a nice pass from McKenzie Calhoun to push EU ahead, 1-0, and just 12 minutes after the first goal, Sarah Wilkins used a pass from Alexa-Marie Campbell to put the Valor ahead of the Bulldogs, 2-0. The Valor defense locked down the Bulldogs for the duration of the half, as EU took a 2-0 victory over McPherson.

HIGHLIGHTS

QUOTABLE

"It took a bit to get going today, so after sitting level at the half and challenging the girls a little bit, they definitely responded in the second half and took the game over. I'm proud of them for overcoming the challenging moments and stepping up to get the win today," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Both goals today were very good and I loved the finish of one of our outside backs, Sarah Wilkins, to put us out in front 2-0. Getting the shutout was pretty special."
