SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer played host to the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles on Wednesday (Oct. 11) evening, looking to defeat the top 10 team in the nation, after OKWU was named #9 earlier in the day in the weekly coaches poll. Despite holding the strong Eagle offense to just a single goal in the first half, on an own goal, the Eagles scored a trio of goals in the second half, as EU fell to OKWU, 4-0.

OKWU recorded the first shot of the game in the first three minutes of the match, but Evangel's Ruben Gonzalez was quick to respond, recording a shot that went wide left quickly after. The Valor were able to record three corner kicks at the 15 minute mark, but only were able to record one solid opportunity, a header from Cole Oedewaldt. At the 26:23 mark, Evangel scored an own goal, giving OKWU a 1-0 lead. The Valor defense remained strong in the final minutes of the first half, as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Oklahoma Wesleyan recorded their second goal of the game early in the second half, from Stefan Cvetanovic, the NAIA's leader in goals so far this season. Evangel was only able to record a pair of chances after OKWU's second goal, a header from James Bourke-Nuku and a shot that went high from Lucas Arias, as the Eagles scored a pair of goals in the final six minutes of the match, taking a 4-0 lead and win over the Valor.

  • Ruben Gonzalez led the Valor with two shots in the loss.

  • The Valor were out shot in the loss, 21-7.
