LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – After falling to Missouri Baptist earlier this week, the Valor Women's Soccer team rebounded in a big way, shutting out Saint Mary, 3-0, on Friday night.

The first half became a back and forth battle between the Valor and Spires as both teams matched shots with three apiece in the first 40 minutes. During the final five minutes of the half, Evangel kept the ball on the attacking end of the field and put pressure on the Saint Mary defense. With just under three minutes remaining in the period, Anna Krueger came away with the ball on a Saint Mary turnover and nailed a nice shot to give Evangel a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Valor came out fast in the second half. Just six minutes after the half started, Grayson Murphy scored the Valor's second goal of the night, giving EU a nice 2-0 cushion to play the rest of the half with. Not satisfied with just two, the Valor continued to force Spire turnovers and ultimately at the 71 minute mark, Evangel's Taylor Collins put the nail in the coffin by sinking another goal for the Valor. The Valor defense took over to end the game, only allowing a single shot in the final 19 minutes, solidifying the 3-0 victory for EU.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Krueger, Murphy, and Collins all scored the first goals of their collegiate careers at Evangel in the 3-0 win.

  • Chloe Hancock finished with a clean sheet, grabbing two saves in her second win of the season in goal.

  • Evangel finished with eight shots on the evening.

QUOTABLE

"I am so proud of the ladies - tonight was as complete a game of soccer as you could find. Our movement with and without the ball was brilliant. It has been a while since we have put three balls in the back of the net in a match," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Tonight was fun, they played a level of soccer collectively that was impressive to witness and executed our plan so well!! Yes I am smiling as I say this!!"
