BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After losing a five-set thriller to Benedictine on Friday, Evangel concluded their road trip against the Wildcats of Baker. Valor Volleyball completed the season sweep of the Wildcats by sweeping Baker, 3-0, on Mary Whitehead's 800th game as head coach at Evangel.
Evangel was solid on offense throughout the night against the Wildcats. In set one, Baker used their strongest attack and had a small lead, 8-6. Evangel's Bella Wakley sparked a run for the Valor, as the two point deficit turned into a five point lead for Evangel. Baker would cut the Valor lead down to just two, 17-15, but another Evangel run capped off by a Tori Lowry and Vivianna Sanchez block gave EU the first set, 25-19.
In set two, the Valor used a game high .312 attacking percentage to take down the Wildcats. Evangel trailed on just one occasion, 4-3, before EU used a 5-0 run to take a lead. Wakley again had a strong showing in the set, adding five kills to her game total to help Evangel capture a dominant 25-17 victory.
For the final set, Evangel came out slow initially. Baker grabbed a small two point lead, but was able to maintain it close to the halfway point of the set. Trailing 12-10, several Valor kills and Wildcat attacking errors helped give Evangel a lead. With the game knotted up at 21 points a piece, Evangel's strong blocking at the net came through, as three of the final four points were blocks, with Sanchez being a key part in all three, giving EU the 25-21 victory.
