SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Looking to avenge their earlier loss to Benedictine this season, the Valor came out ready to play and dominated the Ravens from start to finish, claiming the game on a 3-0 sweep.

The first set of the match saw Evangel come out quick, grabbing an early 7-0 lead on kills from Vivianna Sanchez, Tori Lowry, and Ciera Reyes, as well as a block by the trio. Benedictine slowly erased the deficit throughout the set, coming as close as a point to Evangel on two occasions. A Bella Wakley kill ended the first set in favor of the Valor, 25-23.

Benedictine began set two by grabbing a lead, but the Valor could not be slowed. Evangel used a game high .414 attacking percentage in the set to continue their success. Kills by Sharayah Seymour, Rylie Morrison, and a block by Abi Menzies and Seymour evened the score as Evangel began their run. A few Raven miscues as well as Evangel's consistently strong attack gave the Valor an 18-9 run to end the set, as Lowry put an exclamation point to end the set on a nice kill, 25-15.

In the third and final set, both teams slowed down on their attack, but the Valor had all the momentum on their side. After back and forth play that led to an 11-10 score, in favor of Evangel, the Valor used a Lowry kill followed by an Benedictine attacking error and a Reyes/Sanchez block pushed EU to a 14-10 lead. A Benedictine point led to an Evangel 5-0 run as the Valor fought to the finish, claiming the win on a Lowry kill, 25-17.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lowry finished with 12 kills and 13 digs on the night to lead both teams in both categories.

  • Reyes, Seymour, and Sanchez all recorded four blocks in the win, followed by Menzies with three.

  • Sydney Dunavant led Evangel with 21 assists on what was an efficient night for the Valor attack.
