North Sioux City, S.D. – The Evangel volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the CSM Labor Day Classic in a three-set sweep of Lincoln Christian (3-0) and a four-set battle against NAIA ranked No. 8 Northwestern (3-1).
Evangel cruised to an early morning victory after sweeping past Lincoln Christian.
EU would never trail in the three set victory as 19 different EU players found playing time. The first set was capped off by back-to-back service aces by Daisy Eklund to claim a 25-10 victory. The second set saw Regan Ansley finish a Jorden Stacey set for a 25-13 win. Finally, EU saw Ciera Reyes and freshman newcomer Jayden Marshall team up for a block to emphasize their 25-17 victory and sweep of the match.
Game One Highlights
● 10 EU players recorded a kill in the matchup, with Tori Lowry leading all attackers with 10.
● 10 EU players recorded a dig in the game, with Eryn Russell leading the charge with 10.
● Stacey led EU with 18 assists
● Evangel recorded their highest attacking percentage (.330) since Oct. 25, 2019 where they defeated conference foe, Baker.
● Evangel won the advantage in blocks, 7-3
In the second match of the day, Evangel played extremely hard but unfortunately came up short to No. 8 Northwestern, 3-2.
Evangel started off on pace with Northwestern, matching them kill for kill until they hit 15 points in the set. From there, Northwestern's Emmy Wedgbury went on an eight point run and gave the No. 8 team the first set.
Sets two and three showed EU's grit and determination as they continued to fight, taking both sets from Northwestern after posting attacking percentages of 0.149 and 0.170, their best of the match.
Unfortunately, after taking two consecutive sets, EU would be outmatched by the Red Raiders, dropping set four (25-15) and set five (15-8).
Game Two Highlights
● Bridget Petersen and Tori Lowry led EU with 13 kills in the match.
● Daisy Eklund and Lowry led EU in digs with 16 apiece.
● Stacey finished with 29 assists, her second most of the season.
● Northwestern won the block advantage, 15-2.
