BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker's Melissa Siegel scored an early go-ahead goal before assisting on two more first-half scores to lift the Wildcats to a 3-0 victory over the Evangel women's soccer team in the two clubs' Heart of America Athletic Conference opener Wednesday evening at Liston Stadium.
Siegel scored off of a free kick just 92 seconds into the contest, then assisted on a Kendall Staley goal in the 22nd minute to give BU a 2-0 advantage. Kaylyea Pederson scored off another Siegel assist seven minutes later to extend the Wildcat lead.
"We struggled with their pressure and physicality," Evangel head coach Bruce Deaton said. "Conceding an early goal on a free kick challenged us, but we pressed the players to dig deep, and they responded with incredible energy. For that, I am proud."
