SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Evangel women's soccer team sustained its first defeat of the 2021 season with a 5-0 road setback to No. 9 John Brown University Friday evening at Alumni Field.
Aniyah Gibbs snapped a scoreless duel with less than one minute to play in the opening half, finding the net with a header off Bella Graber's corner kick. Maggie Bailey notched two second-half goals, as the Eagles pulled away by scoring three times in the final 10 minutes of play.
"While I believe it is okay to be disappointed with a defeat, I am not disappointed in where we are as a team," Evangel head coach Bruce Deaton stated. "JBU was very good, and is definitely one of the best teams in the NAIA. We learned a great deal about what it will take to continue the climb to reach that level."
