WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Madison Maher's first period goal and another shutout performance by the Evangel defense propelled the EU women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Williams Baptist Tuesday afternoon.
Maher scored an unassisted goal—the third of her Evangel career—in the 28th minute, and Abbey Schmidt combined with Chloe Hancock to stop all six Eagle shots on goal to post EU's second-straight shutout.
"I'm so proud of the ladies and how they battled throughout the match," Evangel head coach Bruce Deaton said. "We had to make a number of adjustments in how we managed today's game and that created some challenges to the rhythm of our play, but we were determined to grab that second win."
Highlights
- Maher scored at the 27:58 mark, beating WBU goalie Paige Carlyle for the lone goal of the match
- Evangel out-shot the Eagles 10-0 in the opening half
- WBU's Maryn Jones registered three shots on goal to lead the Eagles, while Carlyle recorded three saves in goal
- Evangel improved to 2-0 for the fourth time in program history, including the second-straight year
