SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Taylor Overstreet's goal in the 50th minute and a stout defensive effort powered Evangel to a 1-0 victory in its 2021 season opener against Freed-Hardeman Saturday afternoon at Coryell Field.
The EU defense limited Freed-Hardeman to seven shots on the afternoon, with junior goalkeeper Abbey Schmidt stopping all three shots on goal.
"It was definitely a great way to get our 2021 journey started," Evangel head coach Bruce Deaton said. "We made an adjustment to our attacking formation based upon what we saw in our scrimmages. That change allowed us to create some good chances for us, which resulted in a nice goal by Taylor Overstreet."

- Overstreet notched her first career goal 4:50 into the second half, redirecting a deflection off of a Grace Wright shot to account for the match's lone tally
