SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's tennis team dropped a nip-and-tuck battle to Sterling College Saturday afternoon, as the Warriors edged the Crusaders in a 4-3 decision at Cooper Tennis Complex.
The Crusaders posted a strong showing in the doubles competition, with James McIlwraith and Daryl Wong besting the Warriors' top duo of Kyler Comley and Blake Gladson (6-4), and Sam Coryell and Jarrett Teel edging the pair of Hunter Lee and Shawn Alonzo (7-5).
Evangel picked up a pair of singles victories as well, with Wong knocking off Comley (7-6, 6-4) and Teel earning a hard fought 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win over Lee.
But Sterling received key wins on the singles side from Alonzo (over McIlwraith), Gladson (6-2, 6-3 over Coryell), Hash (6-0, 6-0 over Cade Chrastina) and Kamran Jones, who narrowly edged Luke Carpenter, 7-6, 7-6.
