Stacey Breaks Record As Valor Avenge Previous Loss To Benedictine

Box Score

The Basics

Evangel 3, Benedictine 1 | Game Box

Records: Evangel (11-9); Benedictine (9-10)

Site: Ashcroft Center

Springfield, Mo. – After defeating Missouri Valley on Saturday afternoon, the Valor looked to begin a win streak during conference play. Earlier in the year, Benedictine beat EU, 3-1, but EU would return the favor, taking the victory, 3-1.

Jorden Stacey needed only three sets to break the record for most sets played in a career with 573, and would do so on Tuesday night. EU began the evening on a run and Benedictine could not recover, going down by 11 to the Valor's strong offensive and losing the set, 25-14. The second set was full of excitement as EU would take a 4 point lead making the game 19-15, before Benedictine would go on a 13-7 run to take the second set, 28-26. After the second set, the Valor made sure that Benedictine would not keep momentum at the Ashcroft Center. 5 blocks for EU would stop Benedictine's run. With the score at 19-14 in EU's favor, the Valor would go on a 6-0 run to finish the set off a block by Mallory Dick and Bridget Petersen. With all the momentum, Evangel would not be denied a fourth set win over the Ravens as they used runs of 6-0 and 5-0, twice, to finish the Ravens off, 25-10.

Highlights

  • Petersen had an offensive explosion on the night, finishing with 16 kills on 29 total attacks, finishing with a .517 attacking percentage.

  • Sydney Dunavant finished the night with a team high 24 assists.

  • Eryn Russell had her season high in digs with 37 on the night.

  • The Valor played extremely well at the net defensively, finishing with 11 total blocks to Benedictine's 0.

  • Tori Lowry and Regan Ansley both finished with double digit kills on the night with 14 and 13, respectively.

The Valor will look to expand on their 2-game winning streak by hosting Graceland on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Ashcroft Center.
