FAYETTE, Mo. – Central Methodist handed the Evangel volleyball team its third-consecutive setback Tuesday evening, sweeping a straight-set victory (19-25, 20-25, 16-25) at Puckett Field House.
The Eagles erased deficits in each of the three sets, claiming their fourth-straight victory with the help of a suffocating defense that limited EU to 0.125 hitting for the match.
CMU wiped out a Crusader first-set lead with a 4-0 run midway through the opening stanza, then put the game on ice with six-straight winners to close out the 25-19 decision.
After holding the Crusaders to an 0.042 team attack efficiency in the first set, the Eagles kept the momentum going in the second with another late rally. EU negated five straight CMU points with a 5-0 run of its own to take a 16-15 edge.
After a Bridget Petersen kill pulled EU to within 21-20, Delaney Miller delivered a winner to set off a 4-0 spurt that handed the Eagles a two-set advantage.
In the third set, the Crusaders once again jumped on top courtesy of a Petersen kill, only to see the Eagles answer with an 8-2 run to claim a 10-4 lead. CMU continued to extend its cushion, leading by as many as 10 points before closing out the win by claiming six of the final eight points.
Jordan Wolfe led the Eagles with 17 kills, while Callie Hensen added 10 kills for CMU.
CMU hit 0.297 for the night and finished with a 10-1 advantage in blocks and a 70-52 edge in digs.
Petersen paced EU's attack with 10 kills, and Jorden Stacey added 16 assists for the Crusaders.
