CANTON, Mo. – Evangel second-half goals from Sedona Townsend and Bianca Biffert to a 2-0 road victory over Culver-Stockton Friday evening at Poulton Stadium.
"Tonight's game truly represents what it's like in this conference," EU head coach Bruce Deaton said. "It was a battle. I'm so proud of our play--their heart, intensity and focus on our goal for the match definitely made a difference. The ladies stepped up to another level of paly in the second half to earn those two goals and the victory."
In the contest's 68th minute, Townsend netted the go-ahead goal on a pass from Biffert, who later added her 16th goal of the season--and the 42nd of her illustrious EU career--to put the game on ice for the Crusaders.
Biffert's pass found Townsend, who slipped a shot past Culver's Courtney Croghan toward the far post for a 1-0 EU lead. Alyson Reinold's pass to Biffert in the 79th minute resulted in another Crusader goal.
Evangel out-shot the Wildcats by a 17-4 margin, and Abbey Schmidt posted the shutout victory in goal after saving all three C-SC shots on goal.
