ATCHISON, Kan. - The Evangel women's soccer team dropped their second straight game as they fell on the road at Benedictine 2-0 on Saturday night.
The Crusaders weren't able to find much success on the offensive end in the first half, only a couple of shots on goal. It seemed like they were always on the back foot defending their goal. The Ravens scored their first goal off a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box that was perfectly placed in the upper right corner where the goalkeeper couldn't reach it.
In the second half, the Crusaders were able to connect more passes and create chances on the goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Benedictine doubled their lead in the 57th minute off a header.
"I am proud of how we competed tonight. We actually played a very good match overall - their [Benedictine] first goal was an incredible one. And, although trailing, we battled, we challenged, we competed, and we created a number of real chances to score. We continue to play very good soccer and show progress each time we play. We do have a few areas we need to get a bit better at and those refinements will help us get more results throughout the remainder of our conference schedule," Head coach Bruce Deaton said following the match.
Evangel was led by Bianca Biffert who had four shots, three on goal, while Alyson Reinold had six shots.
Abbey Schmidt played the full game in the goal, saving four shots, and allowing two goals.
