WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- Another first-half scoring outburst helped propel the Evangel women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout Tuesday afternoon at Williams Baptist in non-conference action.

"Today gave us a great way to wrap up our non-conference and get us set to begin conference play (next week)," said head coach Bruce Deaton. "We are playing some very good soccer and I believe we are set to make a strong run in the conference."

The Crusaders saw Bianca Biffert score two goals in the win giving her five goals in less than 24 hours. Biffert put Evangel up 1-0 in the ninth minute of the match off a rebound from a save by Jasmine Espinoza. Meredith Weik had touched the ball for the assist.

Less than five minutes later, Sedona Townsend scored her second goal of the season as Bianca Biffert dribbled in before crossing to Townsend for the goal.

Evangel would push its lead to 4-0 before halftime as Biffert scored her second goal into the bottom right corner after McKinley Yoder played a through ball to the sophomore in the 24th minute. The fourth goal would come from Amber Ellis when Brooke Todd played a ball to Maya Davidson for a cross in the 35th minute. The goal by Ellis was her third on the season.

Not only was the offense on point Tuesday, but the defensive continued its strong play holding Williams Baptist to just seven total shots including three in the second half.

"Defensively we have played well all season but it definitely was great to post our third shutout today," said Deaton. "Our offensive production this past week has been nothing short of great."

Another combined shutout from Abbey Schmidt and Caitlyn Cox saw each goalkeeper record one save.

Davidson provided the final goal in the 76th minute as she squeezed a ball into the bottom corner on an assist from Brooke Todd

Evangel tallied 20 shots in the first half and 32 total shots for the match with 11 shots on goal.
