ATCHISON, Kan. – The Evangel volleyball team rallied back to upset Benedictine, 3-2, Saturday in conference action.
The Crusaders edged the Ravens, 25-23 as the match went back and forth with Benedictine winning set two, 25-16. After another narrow 25-22 win in set three for Evangel, the Ravens won 25-19 in set four as the fifth set was just as tight. Evangel captured the road win 15-12 to keep Benedictine from its 20th win of the season.
Evangel posted a .255 hitting percentage as a team and hit above .200 every set except the second.
Ayona Tharps posted a season-best 28 kills in the win as she also hit .396 for Evangel. Also finishing with double-digit kills was Olivia Johnston who tallied 14 kills and 18 digs to finish with a double-double.
Jorden Stacey tallied 22 digs as well on the defensive side of the net while Bridget Petersen added five blocks for the Crusaders.
Fleur Wesselink posted 21 kills for Benedictine and finished with a .319 hitting percentage.
