DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Evangel women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, 3-1, at Clarke on Saturday in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
The Crusaders fell behind early in the 13th minute on a goal from Chelsie Horton for Clarke. However, both teams would lock in defensively, without a goal for the next nearly 50 minutes.
The Pride broke the scoring drought in the 72nd minute on Horton's second goal. The goal proved to be a needed insurance goal for Clarke before adding a third goal in the 77th minute.
Evangel continued to rally outshooting Clarke, 10-6 in the second half. The rally would come up just short as Amber Ellis scored the only goal for the Crusaders in the 88th minute. Lily Axtell assisted on the goal as Ellis moves into a tie with Alyson Reinold for the team lead with six goals each.
The Crusaders sit just half a game behind Clarke with three remaining with three games left in the regular season looking for their first postseason bid.
