COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Evangel volleyball team won its third straight match with a 3-0 win over Lindenwood-Belleville before the streak was snapped with a 3-0 loss to host Columbia at the Columbia College Classic.
The Crusaders were solid in the first match against the Lynx sweeping Lindenwood-Belleville, 3-0. Evangel was near perfect in the second set committing just three errors and hitting .233 as a team in the win.
Ayona Tharps led the Crusaders with 14 kills and posting a .355 hitting percentage. Hayley Leeper added seven kills and four blocks in the win.
The afternoon match at No. 13 Columbia saw the Crusaders come up short against the nationally ranked host school.
Errors plagued Evangel in the first set before rallying and committing just two in the final set, but it wasn't enough in the 3-0 sweep by the Cougars.
Heather Gahm led the way with 13 kills and a .265 hitting percentage for Evangel as Tharps added seven kills again.
Victoria Fishback finished with 25 assists in the loss.

Evangel closes tournament action early Saturday morning against Dillard University at 9 a.m. before taking on Missouri Baptist in the afternoon at 1 p.m.
