SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A solid defensive effort helped the Evangel University women's soccer team post its first shutout in program history, 2-0, over Williams Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders got their first goal early from Lesleigh Fenton in the seventh minute on an assist from Baylee Joyner. From there the Evangel defense went to work holding the Eagles to just one shot over the course of the game.
Brooke Todd would also score her first goal of the season in the 87th minute from just outside the box to push the lead to 2-0.
The shutout was the first for Evangel since the program's inception last season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Evangel finished with 20 shots while Williams Baptist managed just one in the game. The Crusaders currently rank ninth in NAIA in shots per game.
- Lesleigh Fenton scored her fourth goal of the season and ranks third in The Heart.
- Brooke Todd scored her first goal of the season and is the ninth different Crusader to score a goal this season.

Evangel heads south next weekend to take on LSU-Alexandra on Friday at 2 p.m. before heading to Louisiana College on Saturday.
