BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Evangel University volleyball team split its matches Friday with a 3-1 win over Davenport before falling 3-0 in the nightcap to Briar Cliff at the Bellevue Premier Tournament.
A solid effort in the first match helped push the Crusaders to a decisive win over Davenport after falling behind early. Evangel hit .385 as a team in the third set and committed just three errors in the win.
Jackie Fugate blasted 22 kills and hit .478 while Allie Dunton-Moss recorded 30 digs. Both Brianna Justis and Jorden Stacey finished with more than 20 assists in the match as Justis posted a double-double with 23 assists and 17 digs.
The nightcap saw Evangel fall in straight sets as errors proved costly in the loss. The Crusaders hit just .082 as Morgan Kensinger led the way with nine kills and nine blocks.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Evangel hit .206 as a team in the win over Davenport, but just .082 against Briar Cliff.
- The Crusaders improved offensively in each set against Davenport hitting .234 in set three and .385 in set four. Davenport hit below .200 in every set including a -.021 in the second set.
- Evangel set season highs in kills (60) and digs (92) in the win over Davenport.
- The Crusaders picked up its first ever win over Davenport (1-0) and fell to Briar Cliff in the fifth consecutive meeting (0-5).
