Crusaders at Avila: Evangel is at Avila on Wednesday night for a Heart of America conference game in Kansas City, Mo.
The Crusaders are 6-18 and 5-11 in the league. Evangel is in a three-way tie for 10th place in the conference standings deadlocked with Culver-Stockton and Grand View. Ten of the league's 12 teams qualify for the Heart of America tournament. The Crusaders are coming off of a home loss, 65-61, to Benedictine.
Avila is 16-8 and 9-7 in the conference. The Eagles, coached by former Missouri State guard Rodney Perry, lost their last game in an 83-60 loss to #20 MidAmerica Nazarene. Avila is tied for fourth place in the league.
Wednesday's game is a rematch of the Jan. 6 meeting won by Avila in the closing seconds at the Ashcroft Center. Sedrick Johnson's lay-up with eight seconds left was the game-winner in a 59-57 EU loss. The Crusaders lead the all-time series against Avila 47-15. Evangel won all three meetings against the Eagles last year.
