Springfield, Mo. – Evangel women's tennis opened the 2016 season Friday in Russellville, Arkansas facing NCAA-II opponent Arkansas Tech and fell 8-1. 

The Crusaders, ranked 22nd nationally in the NAIA, picked up a point with a doubles win by their top duo Jenna Elliott and Breanna Feemster. The two defeated Marcarena Acosta and Tamara Bell 8-1. The Evangel doubles team of Mairead Cleary and Alicia Williams were edged by Teresa Sanchez and Annabel Rowlands 8-5. The Crusaders were swept in singles play. 

Evangel stays in Russellville for their next match as they take on another NCAA-II foe, Henderson State (Ark.) on Saturday.
