SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University volleyball team fell 3-2 Tuesday night to William Woods in non-conference action to close out the regular season.
The Crusaders fell in the first set 25-21 but rallied back to take a 2-1 lead after 25-16 and 25-17 wins in sets two and three. The Owls were able to edge Evangel 25-20 in the fourth set and hold off a Crusader rally in the fifth set to post their 20th win of the year.
Sandy Mohr led the Crusaders with 17 kills and a .314 hitting percentage while Heather Gahm chipped in with 14 kills.
Defensively, Evangel was led by Allie Dunton-Moss who tallied 32 digs and Morgan Kensinger who added seven blocks. Emma Lander also added seven blocks, while Sandy Mohr added six.
Senior Jackie Fugate and Brianna Justis added double-doubles on senior night as Fugate finished with 11 kills and 14 digs. Justis earned 24 assists and 10 digs in the loss.
Victoria Day was one of four Owls to tally double figure kills to lead William Woods with 15. Day added 17 digs to post a double-double.

Evangel will return to the floor Thursday night as they host the first round of the Heart Tournament. Action is scheduled for 7 p.m. as Evangel will host Clarke University in a 7-10 match.
