Springfield, Mo. – Evangel women's soccer came up short on Thursday night falling to Bethel (Kan.) 3-1 at Cooper Stadium in Springfield.
Bethel put up two goals in the first half. Jackie Garrett collected a pass deflected off of goalkeeper Josie Gregory and scored in an open net. Then, in the 25th minute, Elise Gerlach scored on a rebounded shot from Kelsey Peterson giving the Threshers a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Bethel scored quickly after the halftime break with Rachael Terbush in the 52nd minute off a cross from Ana Velazquez.
Rebekah Pell scored the lone Evangel goal, firing in from 16 yards off a cross from Samantha Miller in the 73rd minute. It was Pell's third goal in three games.
With the loss, Evangel falls to 0-3. Bethel collected their first win of the season improving to 1-3.
The Crusaders are next in action on Saturday when they travel to St. Louis to take on NCAA-Division III opponent Lake Forest (Ill.). Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00pm.
