Crusaders renewal rivalry vs. MNU: Evangel hosts MidAmerica Nazarene Thursday night. The game is a rematch of Evangel's double-overtime 100-96 win in Olathe, Kansas on Jan. 8.
Evangel is 14-9, 9-3 and ranked 22nd in NAIA-I. The Crusaders are in first place in the Heart of America conference with a one-game lead over Benedictine and Missouri Valley. Evangel has lost two straight and three of their last four games. Saturday they fell 85-79 at Culver-Stockton.
MidAmerica Nazarene is 7-14 and 6-6 in the conference. The Pioneers are tied for sixth place in the league standings. MNU enters Thursday's game with a four game winning streak dating back to Jan. 24. The win streak comes on the heels of a seven game losing streak that ran from Jan. 2-22.
The Pioneers lead the all-time series 35-34. Evangel won the earlier meeting this season but MidAmerica Nazarene went 2-1 against the Crusaders last year including a 77-67 win over Evangel in the HAAC Championship game in Olathe, Kan.
Next: Evangel travels to Graceland for HAAC game Saturday afternoon. Game time is 4 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
Ceremonies Thursday: Prior to game time, Evangel guard Brodie Wingert will be presented with a game ball for becoming the 32nd player in program history score 1,000 points in his career.
At halftime, Evangel women's head coach Leon Neal will also be honored for winning his 400th game of his head coaching career.
