EU in Texas for AGCU Classic: Evangel is in Waxahachie, Texas for games Thursday and Friday in the AGCU Classic. The two-day event features four teams from Assemblies of God denominational colleges including the Crusaders, Southeastern (Fla.), Vanguard (Calif.) and the host Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Tex.).
Evangel takes on Southeastern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, then face the host SW Assemblies at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
The Crusaders are looking to snap a five-game losing streak and, after 10 consecutive 20-win seasons, are off to a 1-9 start this year.
Southeastern is 5-4. The Fire won their first five games of the season and have since dropped four straight. The fell to St. Francis (Ind.) 88-75 last Saturday. Southeastern, an NAIA-II program, lost to Evangel at home last season 80-66 last year.
Southwestern Assemblies is 10-2 and ranked 15th in NAIA-I. The Lions have won five straight and their only two losses have been to Wiley (Tex.). Their game against Evangel is the first meeting between the two teams since Nov. 7, 2009 when the Crusaders won 97-57 in Waxahachie, Texas. Evangel leads the all-time series 6-0 against SAGU.
