Crusaders advance to semifinal round of Heart tournament with 3-0 win over Central Methodist

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel advanced to the semifinals of the Heart of America conference tournament with a 3-0 win (27-25, 25-17, 25-15) over seventh seeded Central Methodist on Saturday at the Ashcroft Center.

The Crusaders trailed through most of the first set and were down 22-20 before coming back to take 24-23 lead. Evangel needed four set points, however, to take the first set 27-25. The 11th ranked Crusaders controlled the next two sets to complete the sweep.

Evangel's Morgan Kensinger had 10 kills and four blocks for the Crusaders while Micah Guiot also added 10 kills. Maddie Baumann contributed 27 assists.

Lindsey Smith led Central Methodist with 14 kills.

The win improves Evangel's record to 36-4. The Eagles ended their season with a 26-10 record.

Evangel advances to the conference semifinals and will host the winner of third seeded Grand View and sixth seeded Baker. The semifinal game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Ashcroft Center.
