Springfield, Mo. – Evangel kept their conference record perfect and improved to 27-1 overall with a 3-0 win (25-8, 25-10, 25-11) over Avila on Tuesday in a Heart of America conference match at the Ashcroft Center.
Crusaders outside hitter Haley Watson had eight kills and three blocks while junior middle block Morgan Kensinger had seven kills and five blocks. Senior Morgan Smith contributed 15 digs.
Avila dropped to 10-12 and 1-7 in the conference.
Earlier in the day, Evangel dropped to #10 in the NAIA national poll. The Crusaders were ranked 8th nationally but had their 24-game winning streak snapped last week by Viterbo (Wisc.), a team that moved to a #1 national ranking in the NAIA poll.
Evangel returns to the court Friday when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Grand View tournament. The Crusaders take on Ashford (Iowa) and 3rd ranked Missouri Baptist on Friday.
