Peru, Neb. – Evangel maintained their perfect record with a 3-1 win (26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18) over Peru State in a Heart of America conference match Thursday afternoon in Peru, Nebraska.
The Crusaders, ranked 9th nationally in the NAIA, went to 23-0 and 6-0 in the league. Their 23 straight wins to start the season is still the longest active winning streak in the NAIA.
The Crusaders had to rally to win the first set as they trailed 20-14 but picked up 12 of the next 16 points to win the set 26-24.
Peru State won the second set 25-18 but Evangel won the third and fourth sets to continue their win streak.
Micah Guiot led Evangel with 17 kills while Morgan Kensinger added 12 kills and six blocks.
Peru State dropped to 13-9 and 4-2 in the conference.
Evangel is idle until next Thursday when they travel to William Penn for the conference match. Game time is 6 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
