Springfield, Mo. -- Evangel swept Baker 3-0 Tuesday night at the Ashcroft Center to win a share of the Heart of America conference regular season championship. The Crusaders moved into a tie for first place after the Pioneers lost 3-1 at Culver-Stockton. Both teams finished the league regular season with 7-2 records.
This is Evangel's second regular season championship in program history. The Crusaders won the title in 2010 when they went 10-0 in the regular season.
Evangel's senior outside Hitter Micah Guiot led the Crusaders with 15 kills and 4 blocks. Junior Morgan Smith had a match high 30 digs and 2 service aces.
The Crusaders will host #7 seed Missouri Valley in the opening round of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday November 8th at the Ashcroft Center. Game time will be 7:00pm.
Evangel will be back in action again on Thursday when they take on College of the Ozarks at 7:00pm in Point Lookout, Missouri.
